KNIGHT AND FAMILY OF 2008 -2009

Each month throughout the year, the Knights of Columbus select a Knight of the Month and a Family of the Month. These selections are based on participation and involvement in Council and Church activities. The named Knights and families are presented with recognition for their contributions.

Each July the Council takes a long view and selects a Knight of the Year and a Family of the Year. These selections are based on that accumulation of good works over an extended period and weighed by the total contribution each makes to the Council and the Church.

The award for Knight of the Year is presented to Lt. Col. John “Jay” Hallam as a Knight who had made a major impact over the months. His leadership and dedication to family has set him apart as a father and a Knight. Jay selflessly gave of his time for the betterment of family in his roll as Family Director for the council. Jay, Paula and their daughters Rachel and Sara hosted the Knights family bowling nights and organize the family picnics.

Lt. Col Hallam was the Professor of Military Science and Commander of the Old Capital Guards Battalion, Senior ROTC Detachment at Georgia Military College. Jay’s bride Paula, served on the Sacred Heart Pro-Life Committee, worked with the parish Teen Group, and was employed by the Baldwin Co. Board of Education. They have two daughters, Rachel and Sara. We are sad to say good-by to the Hallam family as Jay takes a new assignment in Stuttgart Germany, but we are proud to have had them as members of our parish and the Robert F. Kennedy council 9458.

Family of the Year award for 2008-2009 is awarded a family who are well known in our parish, for their works and deeds rather than what they might tell you about themselves. They go about serving the parish quietly with modesty and are content to operate in the background without fanfare or hoopla. But, without this family, it would to safe to say that Sacred Heart Parish would not function nearly as well as it does. The Family of the Year for 2008-2009 is the Ceasar and Victoria Basilio Family.

Ceasar has been a Knight for the past 11 years; he serves in the permanent Deaconate for the Atlanta Diocese. He sponsors the Campus Catholics at Sacred Heart. He has been a band parent at Baldwin High School, active in scouting and he and Victoria work with Parish youth in the SHYNE program. Ceasar is a graduate of Virginia Tech University and works as a Chemical Engineer for a Kaolin Mining Company.

Victoria also works with the Campus Catholics. She is an extraordinary Eucharistic minister, a member of the Council of Catholic Women. She teaches Sunday school. Victoria is employed by the Baldwin County Board of Education and has served in several positions as a Band Parent. She is a former CCW honoree as Woman of the Year.
